What Levels of Electric Charging Stations Do You Install?

Electric car chargers come in three levels, correlating to the voltage they can supply, which tells you how fast charging will be. Allen Electrical can install either Level 1 or 2 chargers for your home.
  • Level 1 EV Home Chargers
    • ​​Level 1 charging is 120 volts and can be installed without major alterations to most existing outlets. Level 1 chargers can typically deliver about 5 miles of range per hour.
  • Level 2 EV Home Chargers​
    • Level 2 chargers require a 240-volt AC plug, which must be installed by a licensed electrician. Fast chargers have major benefits- including potential energy cost savings and increased mileage. One hour of charging with a Level 2 EV station can add 15 to 35 miles of range.​
  • What about Level 3 EV Chargers?​​
    • Level 3 charging is a commercial-grade-level charging station unsuitable for most homes. These DC chargers are what you'll find in many quick-charge public stations and are some of the fastest chargers on the market, but unfortunately, they require specialized infrastructure and aren't compatible with all vehicles on the market today. For single-family homes, Level 2 EV Chargers are the way to go- save the Level 3 for when you're at the grocery stores.
